MakePost vs the Royal Mail Click & Drop app: a Click & Drop sync alternative

Royal Mail’s own Click & Drop app is the default way to pull Shopify orders into Click & Drop. MakePost is an alternative connector that sends orders into the same Click & Drop account and checks that none were missed. Here is how the two compare, from their public listings.

The short answer

Royal Mail’s app is free to install and made by Royal Mail, and it covers buying and printing postage across Shopify, eBay, Amazon and other platforms. MakePost only does the Shopify link, but it adds a 15-minute sweep for missed orders, a daily email comparing paid orders with Click & Drop, and alerts when syncing stalls. You still buy and print labels in Click & Drop with either.

On its listing, the Royal Mail app was rated 1.6 from 90 reviews, with 60 one-star and 15 two-star reviews. MakePost is new and has no reviews yet. Ratings are as shown on each listing on 2 November 2026; read the reviews yourself, as they change.

When the Royal Mail Click & Drop app is the better choice

  • You sell on eBay, Amazon or other platforms as well as Shopify and want them all in Click & Drop through one app.
  • You want the app made by Royal Mail itself.
  • You want to pay nothing for the connection.

When MakePost may suit you better

  • You want to know every paid Shopify order reached Click & Drop, with a daily check rather than finding out from a customer.
  • You ship outside the UK and want HS codes, origin and IOSS filled in for you.
  • You are moving from another Click & Drop app: MakePost’s listing says it moves over with no duplicate orders.

What MakePost does not do

MakePost does not buy or print postage; that still happens in Click & Drop. It only connects Shopify, not eBay or Amazon. The free plan covers 25 orders every 30 days; extra orders queue until the next period or an upgrade.
