How to send Shopify orders to Royal Mail Click & Drop automatically
Paid Shopify orders can go to your own Royal Mail Click & Drop account without retyping them, and the tracking number can come back onto the fulfilment.
This guide is for shops that already post with Click & Drop. MakePost is the Oskivo app that does the sending. You keep the Click & Drop account and the API key. MakePost does not replace Royal Mail.
The problem
Shopify knows the order. Click & Drop knows the label. Between the two, someone still has to copy the name, address and parcel details across, buy or create the postage, then copy the tracking number back onto the Shopify fulfilment so the customer can see it.
That is fine for a handful of orders. It gets unreliable once paid orders arrive through the day. A missed order sits in Shopify looking unfulfilled. A failed send is easy to lose if the only record is a browser tab. And if the tracking number never lands on the fulfilment, the customer asks you for it anyway.
Doing it by hand
The honest manual version is: open the paid order in Shopify, create the same order in Click & Drop, choose the service, package and weight, then paste the tracking number back when Royal Mail has one. It works. It is also the step most likely to be skipped on a busy afternoon, and there is no single list of what failed.
A spreadsheet of “orders sent today” helps only until someone forgets to update it. It does not retry a failure, and it does not write tracking back to Shopify.
Send paid orders with MakePost
MakePost sends each paid Shopify order to your Click & Drop account. The Shopify order name is the reference, so you can match the two sides later.
- Install MakePost from the Shopify App Store and open it in the Shopify admin. The install button is on the MakePost listing (opens in a new tab).
- Add the API key from your own Click & Drop account. MakePost tests the key when you save it, and stores it encrypted.
- If most parcels are the same, set an optional default service, package and weight. Leave them unset if you do not want a default.
- When an order is paid, MakePost sends it to Click & Drop and uses the order name as the reference.
- Each order shows Sent, Failed with the reason, or Dispatched. Read the reason on a failure before you send it again.
- A catch-up sweep every 15 minutes picks up anything missed and retries failures. You can also resync one order, or every order, yourself.
- When Click & Drop has a tracking number, MakePost writes it to the Shopify fulfilment.
Royal Mail still charges you through your own Click & Drop account. The Shopify listing is the place to check the app plan, including any note about external charges.
Tips
- The order name is the Click & Drop reference. If you rename orders in Shopify after they have been sent, matching them back is harder.
- Failed means the reason is on the order. The 15-minute sweep retries misses and failures, so a short wait is normal before you resync by hand.
- Resync one order when only that order failed. Resync every order when you want MakePost to try the failed ones again together.
- Set the default service, package and weight only if they are true for most parcels. They are optional.
Ask an assistant
MakePost works with the Oskivo connector in Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants that support MCP connectors. You can ask which paid orders are still waiting to sync, which orders failed and why, which show as Dispatched, and what the tracking number is for an order. You can also ask it to resync failed orders. Write actions are designed to show a preview until you confirm them. Read access is the default until you turn on write access for the app in the Shopify admin.
Questions
Do I need my own Royal Mail Click & Drop account?
Yes. MakePost sends orders to the Click & Drop account you already have. You add your own API key. MakePost tests that key when you save it and stores it encrypted.
What happens if an order fails to send?
The order shows Failed, with the reason. A catch-up sweep every 15 minutes retries misses and failures. You can also resync one order, or every order.
Does the tracking number go back to Shopify?
When Click & Drop has a tracking number, MakePost writes it to the Shopify fulfilment. Until then the order stays at Sent, Failed or Dispatched so you can see where it is.
Where is the MakePost price?
The plan price is on the Shopify App Store listing (opens in a new tab). The listing is also where you install the app.
